(2 Days and 1 Night)
Day 1: Tambo Quemado – Lago Chungara – Parinacota – Putre
We meet at the border or the border control in Chungara at 9:00 a.m. After our breakfast at the Lake Chungara viewpoint, we offer an optional 3-hour walking-tour for you to observe both Andean flora and fauna in the Cotacotani lagoons. Afterwards we visit the village of Parinacota and also have a picnic – lunch there. Our next stop is in Bofedal de las Cuevas where we do a 40-minute walk. During this walk you have the chance to see wild animals like Vicuñas and Vizcachas and get to know bofedales, the basis of the altiplanic ecosystem. Finally we will head for the hot springs of Jurasi to take a relaxing bath before driving on to Putre where we have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 2: Putre – Arica
After having breakfast at the hotel at about 8:30 a.m. we leave Putre at about 9:00 a.m. towards Socoroma, a village of pre-hispanic origin located between Arica and the silver mines of Potosí. Its church is definitely worth a visit as well as the surrounding fields on terraces, mainly consisting of sweet corn, prickly pear and oregano. This small village with not more than 40 inhabitants attracts lots of people from Arica and the vicinity during carnival season in February, Cruces in May and the festival of San Francisco in October. From Socoroma we descend to Pukara de Copaquilla, a pre-Inka fortress, and visit the zone of the cactus candelabro before arriving at the ecological community Ecotruly in the Lluta-Valley where we have lunch. Afterwards we drive from the Lluta-Valley on to the much greener Azapa-Valley and visit the Museum San Miguel de Azapa and the Geoglyph La Tropilla. Return to Arica at about 4 p.m.
