The community of Camarones is part of the first region of the province of Arica. It covers an area of 3137 km2 and has got 848 inhabitants. In the north it borders the city of Arica, in the west the Pacific Ocean in the south the city Huara and in the east the region Putre. It is a purely rural community and the main activity is sheep farming and agriculture. The main towns are; Codpa, Camarones, Guañacagua, Cuya, Esquiña, Parcohaylla, Timar, Cobija. The geographical area begins at the coast and passes through canyons and valleys, In Codpa and Camarones is the largest population to be found and those places are at the same time the economic centres of the community. The Codpa Valley is mainly specialized in agriculture, especially in fruit growing, such as the cultivation of guavas, pears, quince, citrus fruits and grapes, which are used to make the traditional wine Pintatani. Inside the community at an altitude of 3,000 meters are guanacos, foxes and cacti and on the plateau you can find the village Parcohaylla (4,200 m) and get to know a typical life of shepherds and flocks. This vast area is home to a rich variety of fauna such as the vicuna, llamas, alpacas, flamingos, rheas, condors, and also of very unique plants such as Llareta and the wet-and-straw areas.

In the community of Camarones there are some interesting things to see. For example, you can visit the candelabra cactus, the village Codpa, the petroglyphs of Ofrajia, the village of Guañacagua with his church Guañacagua, the village Chitita with its church Chitita, places like Esquiña and Pachica to participate in the traditional festivals, the Caleta and Canyon of Camarones, as well as the Embalse and Caritaya and the Geoglifen of Taltape and Huancarane and the Cerro Macusa.
